Steve Hinds
Steve Hinds is the senior curriculum and professional developer for mathematics in the Office of Academic Affairs at the City University of New York (CUNY). In this role, Hinds leads curriculum and faculty development projects that focus on community college and high school students who have had difficulty learning mathematics.
In earlier phases of his work at CUNY, Hinds focused on improving math instruction for adult education students. He is also a cofounder of CUNY Start and the principal author of the CUNY Start math curriculum. Hinds was previously a curriculum developer at UChicago STEM Education and contributed lessons to the Everyday Math textbook series. He also worked as a mathematics professional developer at City Colleges of Chicago and led an independent project, Active Learning in Adult Numeracy and Mathematics (ALANM). In all of his work and projects, Hinds emphasizes active learning and student-centered instruction that is focused on deep understanding. He began his career in education as a high school math teacher in New Haven, Connecticut.
