Heather Finn
Heather B. Finn is an associate professor in the Department of Academic Literacy and Linguistics at Borough of Manhattan Community College (CUNY). She received her PhD in teaching English to speakers of other languages from New York University. Finn’s expertise is in postsecondary language and literacy learning, particularly among adult immigrant and refugee English language learners in community college classrooms and community-based organizations. Her publications have focused on barriers to learning among English language learners in the second-language writing classroom, the development of language and literacy within accelerated models of instruction, and faculty perspectives on pedagogy and curriculum in community college writing courses. Finn has received numerous grants, including a 2019 grant for her project studying how newly implemented educational policies shape reading and writing instruction in an adult English as a second language literacy class.
